Signature of an Agreement for Cooperation

On 11 November 2008, on the occasion of the State Visit by H.M. King Albert II of the Belgians to India, and in presence of H.M. King Albert II, the Belgian Nuclear Society and the Indian Nuclear Society have signed an agreement for cooperation between the two societies.
The aim of the agreement is "to strengthen and encourage the scientific and technical cooperation between INS and BNS and thereby contribute to the promotion of peaceful uses of nuclear energy in accordance with the international obligations by which their countries are bound."
The agreement was signed by Prof. F. Deconinck, Past-President of the BNS, and by Dr. V. Venugopal, Vice-President of the INS.

AGREEMENT FOR COOPERATION
BETWEEN
THE INDIAN NUCLEAR SOCIETY
AND THE BELGIAN NUCLEAR SOCIETY
The Indian Nuclear Society based in Mumbai hereinafter referred to as INS, and the Belgian Nuclear Society based in Brussels, hereinafter referred to as BNS, proceeding from the desire to promote the development of peaceful uses of nuclear energy in accordance with their respective statutes and with the international obligations by which their countries are bound, have reached through friendly consultation the following agreement.
ARTICLE I
The aim of this agreement is to strengthen and encourage the scientific and technical cooperation between INS and BNS and thereby contribute to the promotion of peaceful uses of nuclear energy in accordance with the international obligations by which their countries are bound
ARTICLE II
All undertakings identified or agreed to shall be reciprocal between INS and BNS.
ARTICLE III
INS and BNS agree to:
1. Facilitate the exchanges between members of the two parties.
2. Facilitate technical visits and personnel exchanges at the request of either party.
3. Inform each other of plans for conferences organized in either country of national and international significance.
4. Encourage members of each party to participate in the other party's activities and provide lectures, papers and texts for such activities.
5. Exchange journals and periodicals, films and slides produced in each country and encourage their use.
6. Collaborate in other activities of mutual interest.
ARTICLE IV
Neither INS nor BNS shall be liable for any expense in connection with this agreement except by prior written agreement.
ARTICLE V
This agreement shall come into effect on the date of signature and remain valid for five years and shall be reviewed and extended at five years intervals. This agreement is subject to a six-month notice of cancellation by INS or BNS. Amendments to this agreement may be made at any time subject to mutual agreement of the parties.
